"Dear Miami....."
Fall 2008
Fall '08 Scottish Designer
of the Year Nominee, Jane Mc Millan, showcases a spirited,
dynamic new collection for her label Mac Millan. Inspired
by the flirtatious silhouettes of Poiret fused with illustrations
of George Le pape, Mac Millan encompasses geometric shapes,
with colourful prints in a vivid contemporary and innovative
interpretation.
Debuting for Fall is a sculptural range of coats accessorised
with soft cloche millinery to swathe and compliment Mac Millan's
signature cocktail and red-carpet printed evening gowns. Voluminous
folds of luxurious camel hair and felted wool create capacious
cocoon shapes while cinched waists feature puff sleeves and
pleats.
An elegant array of silk crêpe de chine, chiffon and
jersey are digitally printed with a modern interpretation
of Celtic designs, rocks and minerals, and elements of architecture.
This eclectic print combination has an exciting colour palette,
ranging from classical mauve, toffee and turquoise to monochrome,
ocean blue, Miami pink and yellow that forges a spectrum tran-seasonal
trend.
Mac Millan juxtaposes everyday fabrics with glamorous textures.
Draped silk jersey dresses, featuring satin elements and bows
are a fresh and modern interpretation of the 1920's and 30's
style. A chiffon cowl neck envelops an unexpected finely pleated
bodice on a swanky long dress, whilst a low-waisted cocoon
silhouette is engulfed by folds of draping silk contrasted
by strong skinny trousers.

Editors Notes: Mac Millan the label
was established in 1997 with collections shown twice annually
at London and New York Fashion Weeks, and occasionally in
Paris. Founder Jane McMillan has a long highly experienced
history of design working in the studios of Bella Freud, Ally
Capellino and with fashion legend Ossie Clark following graduation
from The London Fashion Institute. |
